While most long-term travel plans are still on hold, weekend getaways close to home are a welcome alternative. Short weekend getaways, in the Netherlands and sometimes beyond, are great for the soul and usually leave us feeling refreshed and recharged, doing wonders for our health and well-being, especially in these times. From beach houses, to cabins, to tiny inn’s on wheels and island cabins – you will find your unique next weekend trip.
Woodhouse with sauna
A tiny woodhouse in Friesland with all the necessary comforts. The Finnish style IGLU-HUT is perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway, including your own private sauna! Cozy, warm evenings and the simplicity of outdoor living.
Retro cottage with veranda
A cosy little cottage in retro style within walking distance to the beach. Make your own slow coffee while playing an LP on the vintage player. The apartment has its own terrace and is in the middle of a beautiful small garden of the friendly owners.
Cabiner in the woods
If you find yourself longing for nature and simplicity, for going off the grid for a couple of days Cabiner is for you. The self-sustaining cabins by Wikkelhouse have their own water pump and are warmed up by a cosy fireplace. A minimalistic and slow lifestyle, bringing you closer to the elements while being surrounded by nature. Read more about our full Cabiner experience here.
Another cabin style getaway just across the border to Belgium are Nutchel Cabins. Each cabin has large steel windows to really give you the feeling of reconnecting with nature, with a bit more luxury than Cabiner. Some even have a hot tub! Unlike Cabiner, these cabins are not secluded which means less privacy than being alone in the middle of the woods.
Another similar, popular option in the area are Warredal cabins.
Nistelrode, North Brabant
This modern little farmhouse, Tiny Hotel, lies hidden away in a small forest. Run by Leonne and her family, Tiny Hotel is a wooden holiday cottage located on the family farm inviting you to spend a slow weekend. Wake up overlooking the forest, collect your own eggs with the silk chickens, have a cuddle with the bunnies, or, our favorite, give a good back rub to pig Lou Lou. An outside campfire and wood-heated hot tub will keep you warm and cozy, even outside during winter days. Perfect for families and couples alike!
Suite-Suite beach cottage
A cozy and stylish beach cottage about 5 minutes walking from the beach, dunes and the center. Suite-suite was renovated in July 2019. Concrete floors, light earthy colors, soft mattresses and linen sheets by Crisp sheet are all part of the experience. Want to watch the stars from the comforts of your bed? No problem!
The island cabin is nature and tranquility just a short drive away from the center of Rotterdam. Arriving by pedal boat you can enjoy the beauty and peace of the Bergse Achterplas, with a large kitchen, lounge area and home cinema. There is an electric boat available for a tour around the lakes.
Eco-cottages at Grevelingenmeer
Located directly on the edge of the Grevelingenmeer, tucked away in the Kabbelaarsbank nature reserve, these self-sufficient eco-cottages are widely spread across the resort. The unobstructed view of the water right from the terrace will offer space to really connect with nature.
Tiny, ecological B&B on wheels
A beautiful custom-built, ecological and self-sufficient tiny home – on wheels! Set in the stunning surroundings of rural Amsterdam (30 minutes drive), the Tiny Inn is an absolute hidden gem for a weekend getaway, nature lovers and city hoppers. DIY breakfast and two bikes are included!
Safari tents in the dunes
A bit of safari feeling close to home on the Dutch island of Texel. The tents are minimalistic but cozy. Made for up to 6 people with three different bedrooms, they are perfect for a family & friends vacation with kids.
Note: The tents are owned and rented out by Landal, a Dutch organization for bungalow parks.
Tiny wooden house
Recharge amidst one of the most beautiful nature areas in the Netherlands, the Veluwe. This tiny, wooden house has two sleeping rooms and all the basic amenities. A fireplace and heating will keep it cozy in winter. A hot tub is available on request.
Design family home
Woodview was lovingly designed by the owners with everything they ever wished for in a vacation home. With two bedrooms, the house can host up to 6 people, with one adult sleeping room. The entire window wall in the kitchen opens up towards the terrace, which makes outdoor cooking and dining easy. The two fireplaces (inside and outside) make for coziness and adventure. Perfect for the whole family.
